How to get there:
From Munich take the highway A 8 direction Salzburg. Take the exit “Holzkirchen” and drive direction Tegernsee. Drive towards “Kreuth” and “Achensee”. At the end of the city of Achenkirch drive follow the signs to the camping lot on your right side. Behind the camping lot you will find the parking space (you’ll need to pay 6 Euros for parking, make sure you bring coins!).
Address for GPS: Achenkirch 20, 6215 Achenkirch, Austria.
Preparation: Start early (7 a.m.) as it is a long hike and thunderstorms are likely to show up in the late afternoon during summertime. Make sure you take enough food and water – the only food opportunity is at the very beginning of the tour (Seekaralm / 1508m / 1:30 h / +43 5246 6709 / open end of May until October).
You definitely want to wear proper hiking shoes (you are likely going to cross some snow fields till the end of June) and I would recommend to bring hiking poles as the descend is long.
Bring sunscreen as you will be exposed to the sun most of the time.
Ascent: The trail starts directly at the parking lot at the northern end of the lake Achensee. Follow the signs, you will walk on a broad forest path for about 1,5 hours until you reach the mountain hut “Seekar Alm” where you get food and drinks (although it might be closed when you reach it early in the morning). From there the path narrows and continues steeply upwards in between dwarf pines (which make you feel more hot on sunny days). After another 2 hours you will reach your first goal, the Seekar peak.
Continue straight over the ridge. Watch your step! It is not super exposed but you wanna be free from giddiness here. After another hour you will reach Seebergspitze.
Here you might want to enjoy the amazing views and rest for a while.
The descend leads via a steep trail to the Pasill huts (1 hour) and from there on another broad road that meanders on the western side of the two mountains northwards back to the parking lot (2 hours).
On the opposite side of the lake you find another great hiking tour that is usually less crowded:
the Unnütz mountain range.
